Lee’s Summit is rich in history, and story has it that the city was named as the “summit” on Doctor Lea’s property was the highest point on the railroad between Kansas City and St. Louis. His name was misspelled on the railcar that was being used as the station and on several signs, so the incorrect spelling stuck. Also, Lee’s Summit is the burial place of outlaw Cole Younger.More recently, well-known names hailing from this community are Drew Lock, NFL quarterback, and Pat and Mike Methany, jazz legends.
