Welcome to Fairway
Located within minutes of the Country Club Plaza and Downtown Kansas City, Fairway is a beautiful residential community in Northeast Johnson County. With nearly 4000 residents nearly 1800 homes and 100 businesses, the city has a total area of 1.15 square miles. Fairway is a 30-minute drive from The Kansas City International Airport. In the 1820s, this area was reserved for use by the Shawnee people. The Shawnee Methodist Mission was moved here in 1839 when a school for the Shawnee was established. The mission is a National Historic Landmark, and today is operated as a museum.
Fun Facts About Fairway
In the 1930s, as Kansas City suburbs were developing, a developer laid out a subdivision near a golf course. It was named Fairway for its proximity to several driving ranges. Fairway was incorporated in 1949 and is known as “The City of Trees.”

Fairway may be small, but it has several powerhouse retailers. The Shops at Fairway are home to local favorites like Hen House Market, Rainy Day Books, and The Little House, in addition to a salon, frame store, shoe retailer, and more.
Rainy Day Books
Opened in 1975, Rainy Day Books is a full-line, full-service bookstore carrying an array of carefully selected new books for adults and children. They produce 300+ Author Events a year, introducing a diverse array of authors to Kansas City from debut novelists to prize-winners, best sellers, and big names in the news. Rainy Day Books is considered one of the leading Independent Booksellers in America.
