Founded where the Santa Fe Trail and the Oregon/California Trails divided, Gardner is a city of roughly 23,000 residents within approximately 10 square miles. Gardner is the genesis point of Kill Creek which runs north joining with the Kansas River in De Soto, and home to Gardner Lake on the north side of town. Gardner was founded as a Free-Stater settlement in 1857.
