Located within minutes of the Country Club Plaza and Downtown Kansas City, Fairway is a beautiful residential community in Northeast Johnson County. With nearly 4000 residents and nearly 1800 homes and 100 businesses, the city has a total area of 1.15 square miles. Fairway is a 30-minute drive to The Kansas City International Airport.
In the 1820s, this area was reserved for use by the Shawnee people. The Shawnee Methodist Mission was moved here in 1839, when a school for the Shawnee was established. The mission is a National Historic Landmark, and today is operated as a museum.
In the 1930s, as Kansas City suburbs were developing, a developer laid out a subdivision near a golf course. It was named Fairway for its proximity to several driving ranges. Fairway was incorporated in 1949 and is known as “The City of Trees.”
In the Fairway vicinity is an innovative eatery, The Restaurant at 1900. Located in the 1900 Building on Shawnee Mission Parkway, it draws on the modernist design of the building. The seasonal menu features modern American cuisine as well as Italian and French.
