The Best in Kansas City Haunted Houses

Calling all brave souls and lovers of adrenaline-pumping scares! Kansas City is home to some of the most terrifyingly fun haunted houses you’ll ever encounter. From elaborate sets to bone-chilling scare actors, these attractions are designed to make your heart race and your hair stand on end. Get ready to navigate through dark corridors, encounter gruesome creatures, and scream your way through an unforgettable night of fear-filled fun. Whether you’re a seasoned scare enthusiast or a newcomer to the world of haunted attractions, here are a few haunted houses that are sure to give you the creepy-crawlies.

The Edge of Hell

Serving up scary nights since 1975, The Edge of Hell is one of Kansas City’s classic haunted houses in the West Bottoms. In this pick-your-path attraction, visitors make their way from heaven through purgatory and on to hell. If you’re lucky (or maybe unlucky) you’ll run into famous characters like the Rat Man or Medusa, the world’s largest reticulated python in captivity. This haunted house is open Thursday through Saturday through Halloween weekend.

The Beast

Consistently rated one of the best haunted houses in the country, The Beast packs just as many rights as the Edge of Hell on fourth floors of terror. The frightening settings visitors find themselves in inside The Beast include a Louisiana mansion and bayou swamp, Jack the Ripper’s foggy London, a medieval castle, and a forest filled with werewolves. Just like The Edge of Hell, The Beast is open Thursday through Saturday through Halloween weekend.

Exiled

If you prefer your terrors outside in nature, then Exiled in Bonner Springs, Kansas, is the perfect place for you! Best described as a haunted forest tour, visitors of this attraction are tasked with navigating their way home in the middle of the woods while monsters and danger lurk around them. There is also an option for a second admission to a Carnival-like experience on the same grounds for the clown lovers in the group. Exiled is open Thursday through Sunday, until Nov. 2nd.

Worlds of Fun Halloween Haunt

On select nights through October 26th, World of Fun becomes a world of fright with the theme park’s well-known Halloween Haunt event. Haunted mazes and elaborate scare zones paired with spooky live shows and seasonal drinks and eats make the complete Halloween experience for those brave enough to experience it. Halloween Haunt is included with regular admission to Worlds of Fun letting you enjoy twice the fun.

Spooktacular Kansas City Halloween Events

As the Halloween season descends upon Kansas City, the city comes alive with a bewitching array of events and festivities for all ages. From intricate pop-ups to haunting nighttime experiences, there’s no shortage of Halloween-themed fun to be had. Rocky Horror Picture Show at Crown Center’s Grand Theater

Dress in your Rocky Horror best and experience the live stage production of The Rocky Horror Show with a live band and cast singing and performing. You’ll want to stick around afterward for when the Grand Theater lobby turns into Club Transylvania, a place where you can order cocktails after the show and mingle with the cast. You’re not going to want to wait to get your tickets. The show is only around on select nights through November 2nd.

Night of the Living Farm at Deanna Rose Children’s Farmstead

This one is for the kiddos! Deanna Rose Children’s Farmstead invites you to the Night of the Living Farm on the evenings of Oct. 18-19 and 25-26 in Overland Park, Kansas. This event includes everything from scary and non-scary hayrides to spooky experiments with mad science. It’s important to note that this is not a trick-or-treat event, so save the candy for Halloween. This event is $15 per person and children 2 and under are free.

The Cloven Hoof at Tom’s Town

What’s better than Halloween? Halloween with cocktails! In the basement of Tom’s Town in the Crossroads Arts District, you’ll be transported to an eerie setting featuring the best witches brew and bites in all the land. The Cloven Hoof is open Thursdays through Sundays and walk-ins are welcome, but reservations are preferred to guarantee your spooky spot.

Kansas City’s Ghostly History

Beyond the thrills and chills of haunted houses and Halloween events, Kansas City is also steeped in a rich tapestry of spooky history and ghostly legends. From historic buildings with eerie tales to paranormal hotspots, the city is a treasure trove of supernatural intrigue. Uncover the chilling stories of ghostly encounters and haunted landmarks with a few of these Kansas City ghost tours.

Sallie’s House

Originally built at the turn of the century, this house, now known as Sallie’s House, became the residence of an Atchison physician. The front served as office space and examination rooms, while the doctor and his family lived upstairs. One day, a frantic mother arrived carrying her 6-year-old daughter, Sallie. The doctor diagnosed Sallie with appendicitis and believing the appendix would soon burst, he began cutting her before the anesthesia took full effect. Sallie passed away on the operating table that day, creating an ominous space for residents and tourists thereafter.

Paranormal Investigations at Belvoir Winery

Belvoir Winery in Liberty, Missouri, is home to the Odd Fellows Compound, which you have the opportunity to investigate with a small group of investigators and PRI (Paranormal Research Investigators). PRI will guide you through this historic property. For extra fun, you can even book an overnight stay.

Alexander Majors House

Built in 1856, the Alexander Majors House presided over a 300-acre farm and overlooked what used to be Kansas Territory. Visitors have been said to encounter the spirit of deceased caretaker Louisa Johnston, an allegedly friendly spirit. The house opens its doors for a few different events leading up to Halloween including tours and a new speakeasy experience.
